INSIDE THE HOME

An examination room is available on each wing for staff physicians to see residents.   The main dayroom. Utilized for games, special gatherings and comfortable atmosphere for watching television.

NURSING CARE

The Louisiana War Veterans' Home is a State licensed health facility managed by the Louisiana Department of Veterans' Affairs. The facility provides 161 nursing care beds. Funding is provided through State, Federal, and self-generated revenue. The Home sits on 80 acres of land in the beautiful hill country of East Feliciana Parish. RN coverage is provided 24 hours per day 7 days a week.

CHAPEL

A beautiful chapel located in close proximity to the main facility is available for Protestant and Catholic worship services. Protestant and Catholic services are held on a regular basis in addition to Bible Study and other special religious programs.

DINING FACILITY

Dietary services are provided by a full-time registered dietitian, a staff of cooks, and food service workers. These employees serve 3 well balanced nutritious meals daily, a light snack at bedtime, and special diets as ordered by staff physicians

ROOMS

There are 4-man, 2-man, single rooms available. Additions of personal affects, such as pictures, bedding, and certain small furniture, are encouraged to make the transition easier for the residents, as well as to give the residents a stronger feeling of home.

CANTEEN

A well stocked canteen is operated under the Division of Blind Services. A wide variety of refreshments and personal items are available. Snack and drink vending machines are located throughout the facility. The canteen also operates coin-operated machines for laundering personal clothes. The canteen is open from 9:00am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.

BARBER/BEAUTY SHOP

Barber/beauty shop services are provided in a modern shop at no cost to residents. The same services are provided to medically incapacitated residents in their rooms.

PHARMACY

Pharmacy support is provided by a registered pharmacist. Sufficient drugs and medications are stocked to meet the needs of every resident. The pharmacy is open from 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.

A library well stocked with books, magazines, and daily newspapers offers a quiet relaxed atmosphere.

COFFEE HOUSE

PALLIATIVE FAMILY ROOM

The palliative rooms offer family members of residents a bedroom, small living area, dining room, and kitchen. The rooms are available to be used on a short stay basis by family members visiting from out of town whose resident loved one is in crisis.

MENTAL HEALTH AREA

Residents are also afforded mental health services from a psychiatrist, psychologist, and mental health counselor. Special programs have been developed for the care of residents with Alzheimer's Disease and behavior problems. Resident are also afforded the opportunity to participate in local community and in-house AA meetings.

GIFT SHOP

The Gift Shop is open at convenient times.

THERAPEUTIC RECREATION

A variety of therapeutic recreational activities are available to residents, including ceramics, arts and crafts, greenhouse and gardens. Also available is a nature trail equipped with picnic tables and barbeque pits for use by residents, their families, and guests.

DIVERSIONAL ACTIVITIES

Parties and entertainment are provided by service organizations and other groups on a regular basis. Other activities include television, pool, talent contests and table games. Residents are also encouraged to participate in regularly scheduled recreational field trips. Two stocked ponds of catfish and bass are also available for use by residents for fishing. Fishing supplies are also provided for residents such as fishing poles and bait hooks.

ACCOUNTING OFFICE

The Accounting Office maintains the resident account fund as well as assuming the responsibility for the collection of each resident's monthly care and maintenance fee. This office is open Monday through Friday to assist residents with their financial transactions.

THERAPY

Physical, occupational, and speech therapy services are available as prescribed by staff physicians.

SOCIAL SERVICES

A well-trained Social Services staff serves as the residents' case managers, assists in the development of individualized treatment plans, and serves as the primary contact between the residents and their families.
